2007 Harvest - early reports
September 27th 2007Most northern Euoropean vineyards struggled with uneven ripeness, whilst those further south have had a long hot summer and are pretty pleased with the vintage so far. Didier Pierson has had to work really hard for his Champagne grapes , but my new supplier Andrea Bosca in Barolo is very happy with these early results. It is still very early days, but I really enjoy getting the daily news from my suppliers as they work with the fruit and assess how to get the best from it this year. Nothing can be done by recipe alone. A sympathetic interpretation and plenty of experience is needed to make a good wine in this tricky year.
